Day 5 – Battambang – Bamboo train- Phnom Sampeau (Breakfast, Lunch)

Battambang is a classically quaint provincial capital. French colonial architecture and beautiful pagodas set picturesquely along the river. Charming colonial-era buildings line narrow lanes, including the 'walking district' near the market where contemporary art galleries, local and foreign cafes, shops and bars inhabit the old shop houses. Outside of town the scenery quickly becomes one of villages and rice paddies, offering an excellent opportunity to see a bit of rural Cambodia. The nearby countryside harbors several picturesque old pagodas, Angkorian era ruins, caves, mountains and the famous 'bamboo train'.

Day 6 - Siem Reap - Kampong Kleang - Kampong Kdei - Kratie (Breakfast, Lunch)

After saying farewell to Siem Reap, our first stop on our way east will bring us to the stilt/floating village of Kampong Kleang on the Tonle Sap lake. Onboard a boat, we navigate the waterways of this amazing and unique village, where most houses are raised several meters above round to make life secure during rainy season, when the water levels of the lake rise by several meters. After lunch, the tour continues further east towards the old French colonial town of Kratie settled on the shores of the mighty Mekong river. Along the way, we will also stop at the ancient bridge of Kampong Kdei, a masterpiece of the ancient Khmer empire infrastructure achievements.

Day 7 – Kratie and surroundings (Breakfast)

Our first stop is Kampi Pool to see the highly endangered Irrawaddy river dolphins. With only an estimated number between 60-80 individuals left in the wild, the tours are managed between the Ministry of Environment and WWF to secure the survival of those magnificent animals. Kampi Pool has the highest number in the world of the dolphins left, and sightings are almost always guaranteed. On the way back, we climb Phnom Sampos to visit its colourful Pagoda, have chats with the residential monks and enjoy the views of the Mekong which flows past nearby.
The afternoon is free time to explore more of this sleepy little town.
Recommended activitiy ist renting bicycles to visit Wat Rokkokandal or to take a small ferry to Koh Trong island located in front of Kratie town. It has an interesting Vietnamese floating village and many secluded sandy spots for a refreshing swim in the Mekong.

Day 8 – Kratie – Koh Sotin – Phnom Penh (Breakfast, Lunch)

On our way south to Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh we follow the shores of the Mekong to the town of Kampong Cham. From there, access to the island of Koh Sotin is either over a stunning, 1.3 km long bamboo bridge (in dry season only) or by ferry (rainy season). Koh Sotin is famous throughout Cambodia for its silk weaving and vegetable growing, Life goes slow, with barley any cars on its single road and where it is much more common to encounter an ox cart transporting all sorts of goods. Strolling around the villages is a step back in time.
In the afternoon, we continue our last stretch to Phnom Penh. After check inn free time to explore Phnom Penh's riverfront with its bustling bar and restaurant scene, undoubtedly one of the best places in Asia to get such a variety for drinking and dining.

Day 9 - Phnom Penh (Breakfast, Lunch)

In the morning we drive to the edge of town to visit the infamous killing fields of Choueng Ek. This symbol of Cambodia's tragic recent history is the place where the Khmer Rough executed thousands of political prisoners and buried them in mass graves. Afterwards we are heading back to town to pay a visit to Tuol Sleng S21 detention center. This former high school was transformed into a prison by the Khmer Rough, where political enemies were tortured up for several months before being sent to Choueng EK.
Note: Those places are not for the faint of heart, with sometimes very graphic images.
After lunch, we will visit the royal palace. Within its compound lies the famous silver pagoda which houses a sacred emerald Buddha statue.
Once our visit to the royal palace is finished, there will be free time in the afternoon to go shopping at a local market, stroll around town or just enjoy the busy daily life on the riverfront.

Day 10 – Phnom Penh – Phnom Tamao (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

After breakfast, we will board our bus once more for the last day of activity. South of Phnom Penh lies Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center (it is not a zoo, as often described by several tour operators). On its vast grounds, which makes one feel visiting a national park, you will get to see many animals home to the region, including sun bears, elephants, waterbirds and tigers. Animals here were either rescued from smugglers, poachers or private zoos, where they were kept under terrible conditions. The rescue centers mission is to resettle the animals back into the wild, if this is not possible, then to give them a safe home. After lunch, we are heading back to Phnom Penh, where the afternoon is free for relaxation time, before the group will meet up again for a farewell dinner.
