Battambang Day Tour

$125 per person
Discover the sleepy town of Battambang in 1 day with the Sunsai Day Tours!

Battambang is a classically quaint provincial capital. French colonial architecture and beautiful pagodas set picturesquely along the river. Charming colonial-era buildings line narrow lanes, including the 'walking district' near the market where contemporary art galleries, local and foreign cafes, shops and bars inhabit the old shop houses. Outside of town the scenery quickly becomes one of villages and rice paddies, offering an excellent opportunity to see a bit of rural Cambodia. The nearby countryside harbors several picturesque old pagodas, Angkorian era ruins, caves, mountains and the famous 'bamboo train'.

Enjoy the highlights of Battambang in 1 day with the departure from Siem Reap.
After a 2 hour bus drive to the provincial capital you will make your first stop at Phnom Sampeou to enjoy your morning tea at the beautiful pagoda Sampeou. Your tour guide will when take you up the winding path to explore the mountain to visit some breathtaking sites as the 'natural caves', the killing caves and the Wat Sampeou. As you take in the spectacular views your guide will tell you the well-known Khmer folk legend of 'Neang Rumsay Sok' - the girl who let down her hair. Many of the local geographic features are named after aspects of the legend, including Phnom Sampeou (Boat Mountain).
After the hike you will enjoy a delicious lunch in a local restaurant on the feet of the mountain, before you set of to the famous 'bamboo train'.
The bamboo train is a unique and creative form of transportation. It consists of a small motorcycle engine-powered bamboo cart that rides the railroad tracks, picking up and dropping off passengers, cargo and animals along the way. You will jump on and ride along the rice paddies on this relic of simple Cambodian transport, one of the world's all-time classic rail journeys.
After your ride on the famous bamboo train you will make your way to the heart of the city, where you can freely explore the narrow lanes and the Phsar Nath, the towns primary market, in the center of town or visit the provincial museum on the riverfront. Our driver will meet you when to set off back to Siem Reap.
